WASHINGTON -- The Washington Nationals have a nine-game lead over the New York Mets in the National League East race. But that doesnt mean the three-game series between the two teams that begins Monday wont be important.Wed like to beat them, Washington manager Dusty Baker said after Sundays 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies. We know they have to beat us. It should be a very interesting series. The Mets come to Washington with an eye on the National League wildcard while the Nationals hope to finish with the second-best record in the league and get a possible homefield advantage for the playoffs, perhaps against the Los Angeles Dodgers.Weve got to keep playing, Mets manager Terry Collins told reporters Sunday in Atlanta. We know we can play with (Washington) them. Theyve got a little bit of a pitching issue right now, similar to us. Weve just got to go in there and play. For its about winning games, I dont care who theyre against. You cant look at any particular thing, you just have to go in and win as many games as you can.New York will start right-hander Rafael Montero against the Nationals on Monday. He is 0-0 with a 4.63 ERA this season with New York. He was 8-9, 5.30 in the minor leagues this year with Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Las Vegas. He pitched 4 1/3 innings on Sept. 6 against the Reds and gave up three hits and four runs.Baker did not name a starter for Monday or Tuesday against the Mets but the Nationals twitter account late Sunday reported that veteran right-hander Mat Latos would start on Monday against the Mets, with A.J. Cole going on Tuesday and Tanner Roark pitching Wednesday.Latos pitched for Baker in Cincinnati in 2012 and 2013 and was 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA in six minor league starts in the Washington system this year. He signed with the Nationals as a minor league free agent on July 3 and is 1-0, 7.71 in two games for the Nationals this year.Latos was with the Chicago White Sox earlier this season -- he pitched against the Nationals one game -- and he was 6-2, 4.62 in 11 games in the American League this year before coming to Washington.Other options for the rest of the season for Washington include two rookie right-handers: Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez.Gioloito made his big league debut against the Mets at home in June while Lopez lost 5-1 to the Mets on Sept. 4 in New York. Lopes has made six starts this year for the Nationals and Giolito has made four.Giolito, who began the year as one of the top pitching prospects in the minors, is 0-1, 5.59 in five games with Washington. There has been some concern about his velocity: he threw in the upper 90s last year but was clocked around 90 in his last outing Wednesday as he came out of bullpen in a game in which Strasburg left early.Lopez has shown a devastating curve at times and is 2-3, 5.52 in his time with the Nationals this year.Cole broke into the majors last year and beat the Mets on Sept. 2 in New York. Cole started at home on Thursday against the Phillies.Cole is 1-2 with a 4.56 ERA in four starts this year for Washington after spending most of the season at Triple-A Syracuse.New York had won eight of its past 11 games after downing the Braves on Sunday 10-3.Cheap Air Jordan 2 Retro Black Friday . 10 Texas A&Ms offence dominated as usual against SMU. Hargreaves began his career in 2008 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and has played with the Edmonton Eskimos and last season with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.GLASGOW, Scotland -- Taking an ice-bath has long been part of Andy Murrays post-match recovery routine -- for those who havent experienced its horrors for themselves, think having a mid-winter dip in a loch in the Scottish Highlands, only colder. Its Murrays belief -- and also the view of those he pays to look after his body -- that the suffering he goes through in that bathtub is the best way of clearing a build-up of lactic acid in his legs and starting the repairs. But the experience would have felt a little new for him on Friday evening in Glasgow. Never before had he taken one of those baths after a contest as arduous as his singles defeat against Argentinas Juan Martin del Potro in this Davis Cup semifinal, with the match lasting for five hours and seven minutes, making it the longest of his career. So on Friday evening Murray had no way of knowing what physical shape he will be in ahead of Saturdays doubles rubber when he is supposed to be partnering his older brother Jamie at the Emirates Arena. That ice-bath -- quite possibly the most significant of his career -- could even have some bearing on whether Murray will appear at all on Saturday, with the possibility that Dan Evans could deputise for him. Though Leon Smith, the British captain, nominated the Murray brothers -- who have become such a force in this competition -- he can change his selections up to an hour before the match begins at 2 p.m. local time. With the defending champions trailing 0-2 after losing both singles rubbers on the opening day -- Guido Pella beat Kyle Edmund in four sets -- they must win the doubles to avoid being bumped from the competition. Even if Britain were to take the doubles rubber, they would have to win both of Sundays singles matches to make the final. And only twice before, in more than a century of the Davis Cup, have Britain recovered from such a deficit, with those victories coming against Germany in 1930 and more recently against Russia in 2013.In truth, all the ice-cubes in Glasgow probably wouldnt have Murrray back at the peak of his physical powers before Saturday afternoon when the brothers are scheduled to play Federico Delbonis and Leonardo Mayer [that pairing could also be changed].ddddddddddddLast season Britain won the Davis Cup for the first time since 1936. Whether they go through to a second successive final -- to potentially make more history against France or Croatia in November -- could be determined by the success or otherwise of that ice-bath. Holding Murray back for the reverse singles, when hes due to play Pella, comes with considerable risk, as if Argentina win the doubles, Sundays tennis will be dead.Even before he played Del Potro, Murray was sounding fatigued after a long summer which has brought titles at Wimbledon and the Olympics. For all his mental and physical resilience, Murray is not without his limits.Ill have to see how I pull up when I wake up and then Ill probably make a decision, said Murray. I had never played a match that long. Ive played matches close to that length but none after an extremely long stretch of playing, so I dont know how I will feel.If the Glaswegian crowd might not see both of the Murray brothers, they are guaranteed at least one, with Jamie playing the best tennis of his life this season. After forming a new alliance with Brazilian Bruno Soares at the start of the year, Jamie became a Grand Slam champion for the first time with their success at the Australian Open and just a week ago they gathered another major at the US Open. For all his success at the slams, some of the best memories of Jamies career were made playing in front of his Scottish fanbase, with both last years first-round tie against the United States and the semifinal against Australia staged here at the Emirates Arena. Theres the opportunity here -- whoever he has alongside him -- to make some more. Can Jamie propel Britain to the most astonishing of comebacks? ' ' '
