SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Chargers inside linebacker Manti Teo tore his Achilles tendon Sunday and will require season-ending surgery, sources told ESPN on Monday.San Diegos defensive playcaller and co-captain, the Notre Dame product had big expectations for the 2016 season. Teo is in the final year of his rookie contract, and he now will head into free agency with a cloud of uncertainty that includes rehabbing from a significant injury.Everything happens for a reason, Teo said after the game. I live by a quote that says, God puts mountains in front of you to show other people that it can be moved. My faith is strong and I know that I will be all right.Unfortunately, I couldnt be out there with my brothers and playing, and that is the thing that hurts the most. It was a big year for me, and I worked extremely hard. And there is nothing that you can do now. Just look forward and move forward and keep going.Teo suffered the injury with 5:48 left in the opening quarter while trying to cover Indianapolis Colts running back Frank Gore out in the flat. Teo went down on his own while trying to plant and cover Gore on a pass route. Teo was not touched by another player. After being looked at by San Diegos training staff, Teo had to be helped off the field and could not put pressure on his left leg. Teo was later taken to the locker room on a cart for further evaluation.Teo said when he went to plant he felt something give in his ankle. It didnt feel too good, Teo said. And something that when it happened, you just knew it wasnt really good.Teo is the third San Diego player to tear an Achilles this season, joining running back Branden Oliver and tight end Jeff Cumberland. The Chargers also lost running back Danny Woodhead, receiver Keenan Allen and receiver Stevie Johnson to season-ending knee injuries.Denzel Perryman will take over as the defensive playcaller for the Chargers, while rookie Jatavis Brown will replace Teo in the starting lineup.Weve had a lot of injuries, but weve just got to execute, Perryman said.Teo, 25, missed 13 games in his first three years because of various foot and ankle ailments. He shed weight during the offseason so that he could play faster and stay healthy during the regular season.Teo has yet to finish a full 16-game season healthy as a pro.I have been playing this game for 20 years, Teo said. I have been playing this game since I was five and all my family is in my head, and my family here with the Chargers and we just had so many big dreams.I had so many big dreams for my team. Just because I am down does not mean that it is over and it is still going, but I just wish I could be right there with them. I am still going to be there just like I was in the second half, but I am not going to be out there with them and that is the thing that hurts the most. It is where I am most comfortable. It is where I have the most fun. Custom Craig Biggio Jersey . Wales centre Jamie Roberts has urged rugbys power brokers to enshrine the British and Irish Lions place in any revised global schedule. The Harlequins battering-ram already has two Lions tours under his belt and will hope to play his way into next summers squad that will head to New Zealand.Rugbys global fixture cycle is under greater scrutiny than ever with no Test matches agreed beyond World Cup 2019 and both hemispheres holding conflicting ideas about how to solve fixture congestion and improve player welfare.Roberts has called on governing body World Rugby and the games other top administrators to ensure the Lions does not suffer among those negotiations.I really hope the Lions can continue to have the right space in the calendar, said Roberts. Its unique in rugby and in world sport, where you have four countries coming together who usually battle against each other. And not just for the players but for the fans. To travel to the southern hemisphere and to support a team which only exists every four years, theres not too much like that in world sport, let alone rugby. And to see that disappear would be extremely sad.So from my point of view Ive been very, very grateful to have had the privilege and the honour of being on a Lioons tour and experiencing that as a player.ddddddddddddTo see that not be one of the big, big things in the rugby calendar would be very, very sad.The Lions will endure a punishing 10-match schedule in New Zealand next summer, with the first tour match on June 3 just a week after the Aviva Premiership final. However, Roberts believes every player in the mix to tour next summer will set aside any complaints about a gruelling season in order to chase a starting Test jersey with the Lions. As much as people talk about cramming 10 games into five or six weeks, its that special, the Lions, and were not talking about something that happens every season, said Roberts. Its an extremely special and privileged place to be. And regardless of how much your bodys hurting after a long and tough season, youre ready.Youre ready to really put your body on the line.Players from the host nations, they only get the chance to play the Lions every 12 years. So its very easy to appreciate too just how big it is for them as well. They know playing against the Lions is a huge privilege as well, so long, long may it continue.? ' ' '
