TAMPA, Fla. -- Houston one game, Memphis the next, and now South Florida.No. 22 Navy is facing a steady stream of high-scoring teams in the American Athletic Conference and finding one of the best ways to defend them is to keep the ball away from opposing offenses. Were very cognizant of time, coach Ken Niumatalolo said, noting how important it will be to limit the number of possessions for USF, when the West Division-leading Midshipmen (5-1, 4-0) face the Bulls (6-2,3-1) on Friday night. One way to stop them is to keep them on the sideline.USF is averaging 487.1 yards and 42.4 points per game in getting off to one of the best starts in school history. The Bulls scored at least 35 points in their first seven games before being held to a season-low 30 in a 16-point loss at Temple.Navy rushed for 442 yards -- most ever by a USF opponent -- during a 29-17 victory in Annapolis last season. And, it could take another dominating ground performance to remain unbeaten in conference play.I know they had a tough one the last time (against Temple), but theyve been playing really well, Niumatalolo said, adding that the Bulls high-scoring attack begins -- but doesnt end -- with dual-threat star Quinton Flowers.Flowers is the second-leading rusher among quarterbacks in the nation behind Louisvilles Lamar Jackson. He also leads the AAC with 15 touchdown passes and is on pace to become the first USF player to top 2,000 yards passing and 1,000 yards rushing in the same season.Throw in two-time conference rushing leader Marlon Mack, who run for a conference-best 10 TDs, and leading receiver Rodney Adams, and the Midshipmen figure to have their hands full.Niumatalolo is counting on his own quarterback, Will Worth, to take some of the pressure off the Navy defense. Some things to watch when Navy seeks to extend its record in conference play to 12-1 since joining the American last year:WORTH LEADS THE WAY: The senior from Valrico, Florida -- a short drive from the USF campus in Tampa -- accounted for five TDs in last weeks 42-28 win over Memphis. In addition to rushing for a career-best 201 yards and three touchdowns, he completed 3 of 4 passes for 85 yards and to score to keep the Midshipmen atop the West Division standings.A lot of quarterbacks are not as tough as him. He can run people over, then drop back and throw a couple of touchdowns, USF linebacker Auggie Sanchez said. That offense is dynamic, and hes the leader of it. Hes crucial to their success.HOMECOMING OF SORTS: Navy has 13 players on the roster from Florida, the fifth-most of any state.ONE-TWO PUNCH: Flowers and Mack form the best one-two rushing punch in the league, with Mack averaging 6.8 yards per carry and 94.1yards per game on the ground. Flowers averages 6.9 yards per attempt, 93.1 yards per game and has run for eight TDs.PLENTY TO PLAY FOR: Thats USFs mantra in the aftermath of last week loss to Temple. The Bulls share first place in the East Division, although the Owls own the tie-breaker.Our football team is still learning how to be champions. ... Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and keep moving forward, USF coach Willie Taggart said.APPROACHING MILESTONE: Navy is three wins shy of becoming the 24th FBS program -- and first service academy -- with 700 victories. The Midshipmen are 697-548-57 in 136 seasons.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.orgVans Old Skool Black Sale . -- The Bishops Gaiters are showing they belong among the countrys top varsity football teams. LONDON -- For once, a landmark game for Arsene Wenger wasnt spoiled by Chelsea, and this time it was Arsenal humiliating its London rival.Wengers 500th and 1,000th games in charge of Arsenal both ended in losses to Chelsea but his fortunes finally changed on the 20th anniversary of his appointment.Arsenal turned on the style with a 3-0 victory in the Premier League on Saturday that exposed Chelseas defensive frailties and showcased the north London sides attacking prowess.Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil provided the goals in the first half that gave Arsenal its first league win over Chelsea in five years. Chelsea hadnt even allowed a league goal to Arsenal since January 2013 before this capitulation. Its one of the best performances in recent years, Wenger said of his 1,128th Arsenal game. We have had to deal with some inconvenient facts ... we couldnt beat Chelsea for years. To get that out of the system was at stake today. But the result will matter little to Wenger, the leagues longest-serving manager, unless Arsenal has the trophy in its possession again when the season ends in eight months.Im hungrier (to deliver trophies) because I know I dont have 20 years in front of me, Wenger said. The weight of keeping people happy and making people happier is heavier than when I arrived. The 66-year-old Wenger has survived in the Arsenal dugout despite last winning the league in 2004, and lifting only the FA Cup twice in the intervening years. No Chelsea manager would enjoy the same job security without providing a regular flow of silverware.Antonio Conte will already be feeling the pressure after two months as he seeks to restore Chelsea to the top four. After opening the league campaign with three successive wins, Chelsea has collected only one point from the last three, and is already eight points behind leader Manchester City. Arsenal is five points off the pace.We must work a lot to improve the situation, because now we are a great team only on paper, not on the pitch, Conte said.TThe former Juventus and Italy coach is the 12th Chelsea manager Wenger has faced since he was plucked from near-obscurity in Japan by Arsenal in September 1996.ddddddddddddConte arrived at Chelsea in the offseason with a typically-Italian reputation for sending out well-drilled, solid defenses. The Chelsea center back conceded possession in the 11th minute around the halfway line to Sanchez, who was able to run through on goal unchallenged before chipping goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.Within three minutes, the Gunners had another.Once again, Chelseas defense was ripped apart with ease with a slick passing move the visitors could find no way of disrupting. It ended with Hector Bellerin receiving the ball on the right flank from Alex Iwobi before crossing to the unmarked Walcott, who tapped into the net.The only surprise was Chelseas rearguard lasted until the 40th without crumbling again. The counterattack started deep inside Arsenals own half when NGolo Kante lost possession.Ozil faced no resistance as he charged down the pitch before sending the ball to Sanchez on the right flank. With the central defensive duo of Cahill and David Luiz posing little resistance, Sanchez crossed the ball back to Ozil, whose first-time volley bounced beyond Courtois. The first half was nearly perfect, Wenger said. We played with style, with pace, with movement.Chelsea was humiliated, and couldnt even manage a shot on target until the 84th from Michy Batshuayi. It was one of these moments in your life as a manager when you think `OK, today is a great day, Wenger said.
