NFL Nation reporters assess the?top storylines to watch Monday for all 32 teams.AFC East | AFC North| AFC South | AFC West NFC East | NFC North | NFC South | NFC WestAFC EASTBuffalo BillsThe Bills will hold their first padded practice of training camp Monday morning, and fans should expect Rex Ryan to start cracking the whip if players repeat what was a sloppy Sunday practice. Ryan felt the team committed too many penalties, including several false starts and offsides, and hes afraid of the penalty-prone Bills repeating their mistakes from last season. As a result, he will begin having players do push-ups and run laps for infractions in practice. -- Mike RodakMiami DolphinsThe Dolphins on Sunday activated new running back Arian Foster from the physically unable to perform list, and he received limited reps in his first practice with Miami. Look for those reps to gradually increase Monday and throughout the week as Foster competes with incumbent Jay Ajayi for the starting tailback job this season. -- James WalkerNew England PatriotsWith an in-stadium practice scheduled for Monday night after Kevin Faulk is inducted into the teams Hall of Fame, would Bill Belichick consider putting players in full pads for a third day in a row? Belichick was not pleased with the defensive front seven in Sunday mornings rainy practice, with defensive end Jabaal Sheard saying, We just got beat and got our asses handed to us. -- Mike ReissNew York JetsThe Jets have no practice Monday, a welcome respite for the five starters who reported to camp with injuries -- Darrelle Revis (wrist), Mo Wilkerson (leg), Matt Forte (hamstring), James Carpenter (hamstring) and Breno Giacomini (back). Giacomini, plagued by an ailing back in the spring, is the biggest concern. He could miss another week, quite possibly longer. They dont have another experienced right tackle on the roster, so this bears watching. -- Rich CiminiAFC NORTHBaltimore RavensKeep an eye on wide receiver Mike Wallace as more than just a deep threat on the Ravens. In Sundays training camp, Wallace caught a couple of touchdown passes in the red zone and was targeted on underneath routes. Hes going to get his share of deep throws from a strong-armed quarterback like Joe Flacco. But, if the early part of camp is any indication, Wallace could be a more versatile weapon in the passing game. -- Jamison HensleyCincinnati BengalsThe relationship between Andy Dalton and rookie receiver Tyler Boyd is already blooming. At the start of training camp, there have been several moments when the quarterback has anticipated where his young pass-catcher will break before the receiver has even ended his route. It happened once Sunday when Dalton fired a short back-shoulder pass, and Boyds back was still to the line of scrimmage. Boyd could have broken upfield on his corner right as the ball was thrown, but he instinctively turned quickly to his outside, getting his hands up just in time to catch the pass. It was one sign of how the pair has started growing together. Itll be interesting to track that growth Monday when the full pads come on. -- Coley HarveyCleveland BrownsThe Browns have not gone full speed in practice with hitting and tackling in years. Sunday marked the opening salvo in that effort by new coach Hue Jackson, who says the only way to learn football is to play football. It will be interesting to see how the team recovers on Monday, the fifth of six consecutive practice days. Jackson wants to develop a mindset; how a team pushes through being weary in the heat is one way he sees that mindset. -- Pat McManamonPittsburgh SteelersLinebacker Ryan Shazier is looking like a force. On Sunday, he obliterated a linebacker-versus-running-back drill. On three plays, Shazier spun himself free with ease and trucked two different tailbacks on his way to the quarterback. Shazier is becoming a leader on a defense that wont relinquish starting roles to top rookie defensive backs Artie Burns and Sean Davis just yet. Second-year corner Senquez Golson and veteran reserve safety Robert Golden are getting many of the first-team snaps, though it should be noted the Steelers mix and match lineups often. -- Jeremy FowlerAFC SOUTHHouston TexansStar receiver DeAndre Hopkins will participate in his first practice of training camp on Monday morning. The fourth-year wideout did not report to the Texans initial practice on Sunday after general manager?Rick Smith declined to engage in negotiations for a possible contract extension. Hopkins, who led the Texans with 111 catches, 1,521 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015, said in a statement to ESPN that he was disappointed with the lack of negotiations, and hes expected to meet with the media after Mondays practice to further discuss the situation. -- Ben DuBoseIndianapolis ColtsThe Colts say the competition for the starting right guard spot is still open, but it doesnt appear that way after second-year player Denzelle Goode?on Sunday got the majority of the snaps with the first unit in practice over Hugh Thornton. The Colts believe theyre set on the left side of the offensive line and at center, but theyre looking for stability on the right side. Going with Goode, who started four games at right tackle as a rookie, over Thornton would be significant because Thornton has started 32 games at guard in his career and it signifies that the Colts have lost faith in him. I mean I see it as wide open right now, Colts offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski said. Were rolling some different guys through and again its not just what theyre doing at right guard. It might be what theyre doing at other positions too as well. Its part of the assessment in saying, Hey, yeah, this is a guy that we need to get in that spot. -- Mike WellsJacksonville JaguarsWide receiver?Marqise Lee has missed the past three practices with a hamstring strain but said the injury shouldnt keep him out much longer. He was the Jags best receiver in the spring and was the leader for the No. 3 spot in the rotation until the injury. The hope is he can return to the field on Tuesday, when the Jaguars put on full pads for the first time. Monday?will be the players first off day, and coach Gus Bradley spoke on Saturday about the importance of allowing the players bodies to recover from working in the intense heat. Thats why he moved Sundays practice to the evening. ?-- Mike DiRoccoTennessee TitansThe Titans are in pads for the first time Monday, a crucial development for a team looking to develop a physical tone. Its especially big for guys competing for the starting left guard spot, where Quinton Spain remains at the head of the line and Brian Schwenke and Andy Gallik are rotating with the second team. It also means the first one-on-one period of receivers against defensive backs. New coach Mike Mularkey skipped that in the first two days in favor of longer periods for positional work. -- Paul KuharskyAFC WESTDenver BroncosIn a year when the Broncos plan to run the ball more, they have the kind of depth at running back they havent had in some time. Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said after Sundays practice theyre all smoking ... they are all doing a great job. It means its already one of the most competitive spots on the roster for the defending Super Bowl champion, so much so that?Ronnie Hillman led the team in rushing, carries and rushing touchdowns last season, and hes fighting for a spot. Hillman?left Sundays practice with a back injury after a big hit. It will be one of the positions where the decisions are the most difficult. In the end,?special teams work could?break the tie. -- Jeff LegwoldKansas City ChiefsThe starting offense struggled in the two-minute drill last year and again in the offseason, but it scored a touchdown on its first try at camp on Sunday. After a long drive, Alex Smith threw a short scoring pass to Albert Wilson. This has been a point of emphasis for the Chiefs, who havent won a game with a late touchdown drive in their three seasons with Smith at quarterback. -- Adam TeicherOakland RaidersHigh profile free-agent signee Kelechi Osemele was conspicuous by his absence in the first padded practice of camp Sunday. Jon Feliciano took his reps at starting left guard, and Osemele was seen leaving the locker room without anything bandaged or wrapped in ice. Coach Jack Del Rio would not say if there was an injury involved, saying only Osemele should be on the field Monday. -- Paul GutierrezSan Diego ChargersAfter two days of practice, the Chargers will practice in full pads for the first time on Monday. Coach Mike McCoy is looking forward to finding out how physical his team plays. This is what its all about, McCoy said. This is what training camp is for. Were going to be in pads often, and its going to be a grind from here on out with the pads on. -- Eric D. WilliamsNFC EASTDallas CowboysThe Cowboys on Monday will be in pads for the first time since the end of last season. For tight end Rico Gathers, a former Baylor basketball player, it will be the first time for a practice in pads since junior high. Coach Jason Garrett said he will remind the players about how you want to practice ... I dont know if it constitutes a speech, but more just outlying how we want to operate. -- Todd ArcherNew York GiantsOdell Beckham Jr. will have a day for rest and treatment after he limped off the field and out of practice Sunday. The Giants are off Monday. Fortunately for Beckham and the Giants, the injury is a minor setback. He is not expected to be sidelined long term, if at all. Beckham sustained lacerations on his left leg after tangling with cornerback Janoris Jenkins. As coach Ben McAdoo said: We were fortunate there. -- Jordan RaananPhiladelphia EaglesThe Eagles will be back at the NovaCare Complex on Monday and back to practicing for three hours. A normal football game is three hours long, coach Doug Pederson said. So why not start right now and get them in game-ready shape? Pederson said he will hold some veterans (such as left tackle Jason Peters) and players coming off injuries (Ryan Mathews) out of some practices. -- Phil SheridanWashington RedskinsThe Redskins are optimistic that guard Shawn Lauvao can return this week, perhaps as soon as Monday. Lauvao missed the final 14 games last season, including the playoffs, because of a badly sprained ankle that required surgery. Lauvao underwent multiple surgeries on both feet, so itll be interesting to see his level of performance; before he was hurt, Lauvao was playing well. Spencer Long took his place and, coach Jay Gruden said, hes playing with a lot more confidence. -- John KeimNFC NORTHChicago BearsAll signs point toward right guard Kyle Long returning to the practice field soon. Sidelined with a left calf strain since camp opened Thursday, Long is walking around campus without any noticeable limp after using a walking boot for two days to stabilize the injury. Longs time is spent mostly indoors rehabbing the sore calf, but he watched a portion of practice on Saturday and Sunday, offering tips to teammates during 11-on-11 drills. Veteran Ted Larsen, who previously started for Tampa and Arizona, is temporarily subbing for Long at right guard. While Larsen is experienced, Long is hands down one of the best players on the roster. The Bears want to be cautious, but Long is pushing hard for a speedy recovery. -- Jeff DickersonDetroit LionsIt was just one padded practice, but the Lions retooled offensive line might have a lot of work to do. Detroits defensive front routinely beat the offensive line off the ball in team drills. When it came to individual offensive vs. defensive line drills, it got worse for the offensive line. The D-line was dominant with both starters and reserves other than matchups against right tackle Riley Reiff. Rookie left tackle Taylor Decker had one good block on Ezekiel Ansah, but was beaten pretty badly in his two other reps. Lions coach Jim Caldwell didnt seem too concerned -- at least not yet. After all, its just one padded practice. -- Michael RothsteinGreen Bay PackersWith Jordy Nelson (knee) not yet practicing, its a chance for Davante Adams to start fast after a disappointing 2015 season. The Packers want to rebuild Adams confidence after a drop-filled and injury-riddled second year. So far, so good, but as training camp enters its second week and preparations begin for next Sundays Hall of Fame game, Adams needs to start making some impact plays in practice. I think hes had a good start, receivers coach Luke Getsy said. Hes come back with a fire behind him. Hes attacking the meeting room, hes attacking the practice field, the individual periods, everything. Theres a fire lit inside of him, and hes ready to rock and roll. Hes got to continue to grow every single day though. -- Rob DemovskyMinnesota VikingsAdrian Peterson hasnt taken part in a Vikings practice yet, but the team is getting plenty of chances to take a look at Jerick McKinnon while Peterson nurses a slight hamstring strain. McKinnon, who ran for 538 yards while Peterson was suspended in 2014, emerged as a rushing and receiving threat during his second year, and offensive coordinator Norv Turner mentioned the Vikings might try to get McKinnon and Peterson on the field at the same time. Early in camp, the Vikings have lined McKinnon up as a receiver, in addition to working him as a running back. -- Ben GoesslingNFC SOUTHAtlanta FalconsMondays day off will give star receiver Julio Jones a chance to have an extended rest from an undisclosed tweak on Day 1 that appeared to be related to his left foot. On Thursday, Jones said there was definitely nothing to worry about, and that its nothing serious or anything like that thats going to prevent me from playing. The Falcons need Jones at 100 percent for the season, although he always wants to push it regardless of how his body feels. -- Vaughn McClureCarolina PanthersSportsCenter on the Road will be at camp all day Monday. Perhaps the ESPN mics can pick up on the new code words the Panthers are implementing, the first time in years theyve made wholesale changes. Center Ryan Kalil says the new codes simply are to screw with linebackers Thomas Davis and Luke Kuechly, who had the old ones down pat. This also could be a big day for wide receiver Stephen Hill, who has done little the past two days after tweaking the right knee that ended his 2015 season in camp. -- David NewtonNew Orleans SaintsThe Saints have one more practice session Monday before their first off day on Tuesday, so dont expect coach Sean Payton to lighten their workload. Payton warned players that this years camp practices would be as tough as he could make them, with longer, more demanding sessions. Weve seen a bit of that already with some physical work in the first two padded practices. Among those players who have stood out now that the pads are on are Pro Bowl defensive end?Cameron Jordan, who has been consistently disruptive. Second-year offensive lineman?Andrus Peat hasnt dominated in the same way, but he has been much more impressive than he was this time last year. -- Mike TriplettTampa Bay BuccaneersDefensive lineman?Robert Ayers could be worth every penny of the three-year, $21 million contract he signed this offseason. He has been lining up on the outside and inside, and has really given the defensive line a jolt. Now that the pads have come on and theres actual contact, youll be seeing a whole lot more of him, and so will quarterback?Jameis Winston. -- Jenna LaineNFC WESTArizona CardinalsAs the Cardinals held their first padded practice on Sunday, coach Bruce Arians said rookie defensive tackle?Robert Nkemdiche will be set back by missing two weeks of practicing in pads due to a high ankle sprain he suffered Tuesday. Arians feels the 29th overall pick has picked up the Cardinals scheme well mentally but will fall behind in adapting to the NFL style of play by not practicing. Hes shown hes got all the physical tools, so putting pads on, getting hit, double teamed and those type of things, hes going to miss that the next two weeks, Arians said. -- Josh WeinfussLos Angeles RamsThe Rams opened training camp at UC Irvine on Saturday with more than 10,000 fans in attendance. Case Keenum is No. 1 on the quarterback depth chart, but No. 1 overall draft pick Jared Goff is getting plenty of snaps in the early going. Running back Tre Mason did not report to camp after breaking off communication with the team, according to coach Jeff Fisher. The 22-year-old tailback was arrested in March on drug and traffic charges and has had five separate incidents with police over the past four months. -- ESPN.com staffSan Francisco 49ersThe 49ers had their first training camp practice Sunday with quarterbacks Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert splitting the reps evenly with the first-team offense. Coach Chip Kelly said thats the plan for the foreseeable future, including Mondays practice and the first padded practice on Tuesday. Obviously, youd like to get it done sooner rather than later, Kelly said. But, you dont want to get it done sooner and then make the wrong decision. So, I think how we train and what we do on the practice fields and then obviously the opportunity to play in preseason games will give us a real good indication, we hope, as we head into the regular season. -- Nick WagonerSeattle SeahawksEarly indications are positive for Brandon Browner as he makes the move to safety. Browner has gotten his hands on a number of passes already, and coach Pete Carroll called him a monster of a football player. The Seahawks seem to believe that Browner can play a hybrid safety role and be effective in certain matchups, specifically against pass-catching tight ends. -- Sheil KapadiaMarc-Andre Fleury Jersey . The Swede became the first golfer to win the PGA Tours FedEx Cup and European Tours Race to Dubai in the same season. Joe McDonald gives us his take on the biggest and best. This is where we say, Morning, Joe.Torts is tops:?Coach John Tortorella, 58, became the first American-born coach to reach 500 career wins in the NHL with the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 OT win over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. He has won a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2003-04, of course, but reaching this milestone is an impressive accomplishment as well. Is he the greatest U.S. coach? Like him or not, he wears his heart on his sleeve and he holds players accountable. He was fired by the Vancouver Canucks after only one season (2013-14), and his decision to step away from coaching probably saved his career. He took over in Columbus after Todd Richards was fired seven games into the 2015-16 season, and Tortorellas presence has been influential for the Blue Jackets. The results speak for themselves: He should be considered among the elite American coaches.Let the truth be told:?There was never a goalie controversy with the New York Rangers. While Henrik Lundqvist sat on the bench four consecutive games for the first time in his career as a healthy backup, Antti Raanta went 3-1-0. The brief hiatus as the No. 1 proved crucial for Lundqvvist.dddddddddddd Since his return, hes 3-0-0 in his past three starts, with a 0.98 goals-against average and a .967 save percentage. He now has 389 career wins, tying Dominik Hasek for the most wins by a European goaltender. Overall, Lundqvist is 14-5-1, with a 2.19 GAA and a .927 SP. He continues to make timely saves and hes made 87 on 90 shots during the streak. It should serve as evidence that he can take a few games off to stay fresh because Raanta is more than capable of doing the job.Blackhawks tightening up:?Just when you think the Chicago Blackhawks, winners of three Stanley Cups since 2010, are struggling, they rocket to success once again. Chicago has won five consecutive games and owns the best record (22-8-4) in the league with 48 points. With No. 1 goalie Corey Crawford (appendectomy) sidelined, backup Scott Darling has stepped in and has been outstanding. So, what happens after Crawford returns, expected to be as early as Friday? Its a no-brainer. He gets his job back. When that does happen, hell notice a better defensive team in front of him than before his illness. The Blackhawks are back to being the gold standard. ' ' '
