Then she ran.Not nearly fast enough.Jenneke was eliminated in the opening round of the 100m hurdles at the Rio Olympics. The high-profile Australian trailed home sixth in her heat in 13.26 seconds, almost half a second slower than her personal best set last year.Jenneke was excited by the crowd before her debut Games showing and executed her trademark start-line jig.But the bubbly 23-year-old was admittedly disappointed with one of the worst races Ive ever done, saying shes been struggling with nerve pain for two weeks.Ive been on the table every day sorting that out, Jenneke said. But unfortunately I felt it grab on hurdle two.I tried to push past it but just couldnt get the same drive off my leg I wanted to.Jenneke is still better known for the warm-up dance that made her a global internet sensation at the 2012 world junior championships than she is for results on the track. The Sydney-based university student and one-time Sports Illustrated swimsuit model was the only athlete hand-picked for Coca-Colas Olympics campaign not to have won a medal.ddddddddddddwenty-three of the 24 hurdlers who qualified for the semi-finals went under 13 seconds in Tuesdays heats.Jenneke hasnt cracked that barrier since winning Aprils national championships in the absence of injured reigning Olympic champion Sally Pearson, who was unable to defend her title in Rio after doing her hamstring in June. Her run was almost half a second slower than any of Pearsons six times over the distance at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.Breaking 13 seconds isnt easy, said Jenneke, who has 340,000 Instagram followers.I was in form to break it today. I had a really good warm-up session, just didnt put the race together.I dont actually do that many competitive races throughout the season and its made me look to doing more going forward. But Im still young, I still live at home and am at university. At the moment athletics isnt my only priority.Pearson tweeted Jenneke after the race to acknowledge her good effort.
